The Kranji War Memorial

Headed over to Kranji War Memorial to snap a few pictures of the beautiful place. The place exuded a very special aura.Despite the bad weather, the place has a very serene feel, quite unlike the other local cemetery.

This place simply reminded me of my (recently) passed NS days. All local boys above the age of 18 has to go through this. How meaningful we make out of these 2 years depends solely on which perspective we look at it. Some do it for money, some do it pride, some really do it for the country, others, for other unknown reasons.

I, honestly did it for,

1) Pride;

2) Money.

3) Country (a little. After all, we cannot depend on mercenaries to do the dirty work)

Like LKY’s famous saying; “No one owes Singapore a living…”. Who else can we depend on to save this little bit that generations and generations of Singaporeans has worked so hard for.

BUT, it seems like the generations and generations of Singaporeans has gone soft. Bah, I shall not go on about how training is like in National Service.

Anyways, there were countless of tombs at the holy place. Majority of the dead are not buried under, probably because their bodies could not be found. There were also various formations and different services being buried at one location. People of different ranks were not segregated. All were held on the same burial grounds.

Talk about Singapore producing one of the youngest officers of the Nation, it seems like there were some outstanding elites of those days who were promoted to Lieutenants at the age of 20. Probably only the high fliers were able to get promoted so easily.

Singapore produces a high number of officers in year. I’ve seen many. But really how much are of such quality? I’m not too sure. I’m not even too sure of myself.

Beautiful place. Please do visit this place at least once in your life, especially if you call yourself Singaporeans.
